Agriculture in Our County
Located in the foothills of the Blue Ridge Mountains, Culpeper County is home to some of the state’s finest farm land.
The county’s fertile, rolling land is perfect for growing feed corn and hay, which has enabled Culpeper to produce 3,700 acres of corn silage and 35,000 acres of hay.
Some of its corn goes for the production of moonshine at a distillery on a Culpeper farm that is licensed by the state and federal government to make moonshine.
The rich soils have also helped a handful of farmers make a living growing grapes for Virginia wines, a rapidly growing sector of the state’s economy.
Farmers here also take advantage of the fields and meadows to graze cattle--more than 28,000 of them.
Culpeper’s scenic views, lakes, rivers and woodlands, are enhanced by agriculture--a mainstay of the community.
