Charlotte County is the state’s leading producer of fired-cured tobacco, producing 165 acres in 2002.

Charlotte has 535 farms, and cropland amounts to 25,953 acres. This includes hay and pasture, corn, tobacco and soybeans.

In addition, Charlotte’s cattle number 16,000 and are mostly beef, as well as some dairy. This county also has hogs, sheep, laying hens and broilers.

In this county, which includes Buggs Island Lake at its southern tip, agriculture generated $15.8 million in cash receipts in 2002.
