Bordering North Carolina in Virginia’s Southside, Brunswick County shares part of the Meherrin River and is home to 333 farms.
With 79,045 acres of farmland, Brunswick has 8,600 head of cattle, mostly beef. It also has some milk cows, hogs and sheep.
Brunswick also produces tobacco, with 1,480 cares of flue-cured and 66 acres of fire-cured.
Brunswick farmers produced more than 800 acres of corn in 2002, 5,600 acres of soybeans and 9,000 acres of hay.
Overall, Brunswick agriculture generates $12.6 million in cash receipts, according to the latest agriculture census.
