Agriculture in Our County
Accomack County, located on Virginia’s Eastern Shore, is a bayside and seaside farming community that produces the most grain corn, soybeans and wheat in the state.
The county's largest industries are poultry and vegetables. These and other commodities are raised on 318 farms, which make up 91,056 acres on this scenic peninsula between the Atlantic Ocean and Chesapeake Bay. Overall, the county generates $109.1 million in annual cash receipts, according to the latest agriculture census.
The rich sandy soils and temperate ocean climate give Accomack County a distinctive advantage in growing grains and commercial vegetables. That's why the area, on the southernmost tip of the Delmarva Peninsula, has earned the nickname, "Garden by the Sea."
